Risen & Ryan, P.A. was established in 1996 by attorneys Shawn M. Risen and Stephen J. Ryan. Today, as we approach our third decade, the firm remains a trusted name in the areas of Family Law, Juvenile Law, and Criminal Defense. The founding attorneys believe that our clients’ best interests are served only through compassionate counsel, cutting-edge legal strategies, and aggressive trial advocacy, and we stand committed to the idea that every client deserves to be treated as if he or she were are only client.

Shawn M. Risen, J.D., B.C.S.

Principal Attorney

Shawn holds a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Florida State University, College of Law and a BA in History Education from the University of West Florida. Shawn has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1996, a member of the United States District Court, Northern District of Florida since 1997, and Board-Certified as an expert in Juvenile Law since 2017.

Stephen J. Ryan, J.D.

Principal Attorney

Stephen “Steve” Joseph Ryan was born in the Bronx, where his mother worked as a nurse and his father was an officer with the New York Police Department. In the early ’90s, Steve moved to Tallahassee, Florida to continue his studies at Florida State University’s College of Law, where he met fellow law student and his future law partner, Shawn Risen. In 1995, Steve graduated with honors and received a Juris Doctorate, and one year later, Steve and Shawn Risen established Risen & Ryan, Attorneys at Law.

Kenya Risen, F.R.P.

Certified Paralegal

Kenya studied at Florida State University and earned her Associates Degree at NWFSC in 1993. Kenya is recognized by the State Bar Association as a Florida Registered Paralegal since 2008 and has more than 25 years experience assisting clients in matters of Marital & Family Law, Juvenile Law & Criminal Defense. As our paralegal and office manager, Kenya will work directly with you to ensure your case gets the attention you deserve.
